Neonatal Seizures: Epidemiological, Diagnostic Aspects and Short-Term Outcome at Issaka Gazoby Maternity Hospital of Niamey, Niger

Introduction: Neonatal seizures are one of the most challenging situations for paediatricians. The objective this work was to study epidemiological and diagnostic aspects short-term outcomes neonatal at Issaka Gazoby Maternity Hospital in Niamey. Patients Methods: This a prospective from November 2020 April 2021 neonatology department Hospital. All newborns aged 0 28 days hospitalized and/or having convulsions during hospitalization were included. characteristics, aspects, their studied. Data analyzed using SPSS version 20 software. Results: Of 3.068 admitted, 69 cases recorded (2.24%). sex ratio 1.22, 94.2% neonates born term. Generalized crises found 50.7%. main etiologies perinatal asphyxia (46.4%) early-onset infection (40.6%). death rate 20.3%. Neonates died between (1) three (3) age 42.9%. causes (50%) (21.4%). Conclusion: uncommon frequent, with semiology dominated by generalized seizures. Mortality is high. reinforcement preventive measures necessary.
